Chapter 9

 The Accidental Tourist

1.    Bill Bryson says, "I am, in short, easily confused." What examples has he given to             justify this?

Answer:- Bill Brisson says, "I'm briefly easily confused." He gives some examples to justify the statement. For example, he will go to a movie to find a restroom, and stand in an alley on the wrong side of a self-locking door. He said his specific specialty was returning to the hotel desk two or three times a day and asking what his room number was.

2.   What happens when the zip on his carry-on bag gives way?

Answer:- The side of the bag had been blown off and everything inside had been excessively removed – newspaper cuttings and other loose papers, pipe tobacco, magazines, passports, English money and 14-ounce tins of movies. his documents dropped, coins bounced on the floor, and his fingers began to bleed as he topped his fingers into the zip.

3.   Why is his finger bleeding? What is his wife's reaction?

Answer;- His finger is bleeding because he gassed his finger on the zipper. His wife did not display anger or rage. instead, she looked at him with a surprised expression and said she couldn't believe he was doing this for a living.

4.    How does Bill Bryson end up in a "crash position" in the aircraft?

Answer:- Once, on an airplane, the author pressed to tie his shoelaces. At the same moment, someone in the seat in front of him dropped his seat into a full recline. It was then that the author found himself pinned helplessly in a crash position. He was only able to free himself by nailing the leg of the man sitting next to him.

5.    Why are his teeth and gums navy blue?

Answer:- On an airplane, the writer was writing important thoughts in his notebook and sucking thoughtfully at the end of his pen. The pen was leaking. The author's mouth, snout, tongue, teeth and gums were now navy blue.

6.   Bill Bryson "ached to be suave". Is he successful in his mission? List his 'unsuave'              ways?

Answer:- No, he does not succeed in his goal of being gentle. He does many things in an immoral way. He would get up from the dinner table as if he had just experienced an extremely localized seismic event, get in a car and close the door leaving his 14 inch coat outside, wearing light colored trousers he discovered at the end of the day he was in chewing gum, ice cream, cough syrup and motor oil They sit at different times.

7.   Why do you think Bill Bryson's wife says to the children, "Take the lids off the food for       Daddy"?

Answer:- Bill Brisson's wife tells the kids, "Remove the food lids for Dad," as she fears that if Bill opens the lids, he could cause another mess. She knew that such situations happened often with her husband, especially when he was traveling.

8.   What is the significance of the title?

Answer:- The Accidental Tourist is a very accurate and important title. The author gives many examples throughout his story which prove that he is an accident tourist. He is a tourist who keeps having hilarious accidents and problems. He travels a lot and yet makes unintentional mistakes when doing things that others do with no apparent difficulty.
