1. Lets see how much you have understood the story. Answer the questions:

মোহেন যে প্রাচীন রীতির কথা বলছিলেন তা হল, লোকেরা যখন বাড়ি ফিরে যায় তখন তারা সবজি কুড়ায়।

তাদের প্রস্তাবে মোহেন কেমন প্রতিক্রিয়া দেখিয়েছিলেন?

Ans: After the feast the boys went to Shantiram's house for the pickup vegetables.

Ans: Shantiram was sitting wrapped in a black blanket because he knew someone might pick up his vegetables. Shantiram was sitting in the middle of the vegetable garden.
শান্তিরাম কালো কম্বল জড়িয়ে বসে ছিল কারণ সে জানত যে কেউ তার সবজি তুলে নিতে পারে। শান্তিরাম সবজির মাঝে বসে ছিল।

মোহেন কী ধরণের কালো আবর্জনা লক্ষ্য করেছিল?

Ans: The boy run away from the garden because they saw a ghosts.
ছেলেটি বাগান থেকে পালিয়ে যায় কারণ তারা একটি ভূত দেখেছে।
(l) What happened when the boys were about to pick the vegetables?
ছেলেরা যখন সবজি তুলতে শুরু করল তখন কী হল?
Ans: When the boys tried to pick up the vegetables, a pile of garbage jerked and moved towards him.
ছেলেরা যখন সবজি তুলতে চেষ্টা করল, তখন তারা আবর্জনার স্তূপ তার দিকে ইশারা করল।

2. Here are some of the events that happened on the uruka night, but they are not arranged in the proper order.
উরুকার রাতে ঘটে যাওয়া কিছু ঘটনা এখানে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে, কিন্তু সেগুলো সঠিক ক্রমে সাজানো হয়নি।
* Arrange the sentences in the proper sequence and them read the lesson to check your answer.

(a) Mahen saw something like a black heap of garbage in the middle of the garden.
(b) Shantiram ran towards the boys when the boys were about to pick the vegetables.
(c) Sanju, Nantu, Rinku, Rumon, and Mahen planned adventure on uruka night.
(d) The boys ran frantically out of the garden, scared that the ghost was after them.
(e) Just past midnight, the five boys headed towards Shantiram's vegetable garden.
(ক) মাহেন বাগানের মাঝখানে কালো আবর্জনার স্তূপের মতো কিছু দেখতে পেল।
(খ) ছেলেরা যখন সবজি তুলতে যাচ্ছিল, তখন শান্তিরাম তাদের দিকে দৌড়ে গেল।
(গ) উরুকার রাতে, সঞ্জু, নান্টু, রিঙ্কু, রুমান এবং মাহেন একটি অভিযানের পরিকল্পনা করেছিল।
(ঘ) ছেলেরা উন্মত্তভাবে বাগান থেকে বেরিয়ে এল, ভয়ে যে ভূত তাদের পিছনে লেগেছে।
(ঙ) ঠিক মধ্যরাতের পর, পাঁচজন ছেলে শান্তিরামের সবজি খেতে বেরিয়ে পড়ে।
Ans:
1st (c) Sanju, Nantu, Rinku, Rumon, and Mahen planned adventure on uruka night.

১ম (গ) সঞ্জু, নান্টু, রিঙ্কু, রুমান এবং মাহেন উরুকার রাতে একটি অ্যাডভেঞ্চারের পরিকল্পনা করেছিল।
দ্বিতীয় (ঙ) মধ্যরাত পার হয়ে গেল, পাঁচটি ছেলে শান্তিরামের সবজির দিকে রওনা দিল।
তৃতীয় (ক) মোহেন বাগানের মাঝখানে কালো আবর্জনার স্তূপের মতো কিছু দেখতে পেল।
চতুর্থ (খ) ছেলেরা যখন সবজি তুলতে যাচ্ছিল, শান্তিরাম তাদের দিকে দৌড়ে গেল।
৫ম (ঘ) ছেলেরা ভূত তাদের পিছনে লেগেছে এই ভয়ে উন্মত্তভাবে বাগান থেকে বেরিয়ে এল।

Ans:
Propose - To suggest a plan, an idea etc.
restless - Unable to say still
custom - An accepted way of behaving or of doing things in society
feast - Done quickly and with a lot of activity, but in a way that is not very well organized
প্রস্তাব - একটি পরিকল্পনা, একটি ধারণা, ইত্যাদির পরামর্শ দেওয়া।
অস্থির - কিন্তু অবর্ণনীয় অভিযোজন - সমাজে আচরণ বা কাজ করার একটি গ্রহণযোগ্য উপায় ভোজ - দ্রুত এবং প্রচুর কার্যকলাপের সাথে সম্পন্ন হয়, কিন্তু এমনভাবে যা খুব সুসংগঠিত নয়
(5) Read the lesson once again and write in the box the name(s) of the person \people who said the lines given below. In which paragraph does each sentence occur

6. Let's learn some grammar:
৬. আসুন কিছু ব্যাকরণ শিখি:
(a) Read the following two sentences:
(ক) নিচের দুটি বাক্য পড়ো:
(i) We will spend the night in our bhelaghar.
(i) আমরা আমাদের কুঁড়েঘরে রাত কাটাবো।
(ii) We'll carry as much vegetables as possible.
(ii) আমরা যতটা সম্ভব সবজি বহন করব।
Note the following:
নিম্নলিখিত বিষয়গুলি বিবেচনা করুন:
(i) We can write we will as we'll.
(i) আমরা যেমন লিখতে চাই তেমন লিখতে পারি।
(ii) We'll is a shorter from of we will.
(ii) We'll হল we will থেকে সংক্ষিপ্ত।
Now rewrite the following sentences using the short form of will.
এবার উইলের সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ ব্যবহার করে নিম্নলিখিত বাক্যগুলি আবার লিখুন।
(i) Mahen said, ''We will make a bhelaghar.''
(i) মাহেন বলল, ''আমরা একটি ভেলাঘরা তৈরি করব।''
(ii) They will spend the night in the bhelaghar.

(iii)Sanju thought, ''When everyone is asleep, I will pick vegetables.''

(iv) Mahen said, ''we will help each other to cook the food.''
(iv) মাহেন বলল, "আমরা একে অপরকে খাবার রান্না করতে সাহায্য করব।"
(v) They will have an uruka adventure.
(v) তাদের একটি উরুকা অভিযান হবে।
(vi) Now read the following sentences:
(vi) এবার নিচের বাক্যগুলো পড়ো।
(i) We'll carry as much as possible in our hands.
(i) আমরা যতটা সম্ভব বহন করব।
(ii) I shall wait to see who comes to steal my vegetables.
(ii) আমি অপেক্ষা করব কে আমার সবজি চুরি করতে আসে তা দেখার জন্য।
We use words like will and shall to talk about something that is going to happen in the future.
ভবিষ্যতে ঘটবে এমন কিছু নিয়ে কথা বলতে আমরা ইচ্ছা এবং আকাঙ্ক্ষার মতো শব্দ ব্যবহার করি।
(c) Note the difference in meaning between the first two sentences and the third:
(গ) প্রথম দুটি বাক্য এবং তৃতীয় বাক্যের মধ্যে অর্থের পার্থক্য লক্ষ্য করুন:
(i) We will spend the night in the bhelaghar.
(i) আমরা ভেলাঘরে রাত কাটাবো।
(ii) We shall go and pick vegetables.
আমরা যাব এবং সবজি তুলব।
(ii) We spent the night in the bhelaghar.
আমরা ভেলাঘরায় রাত কাটিয়েছি।
The fist two sentences express future time and the third sentence expresses past time.
প্রথম দুটি বাক্য ভবিষ্যৎ কাল প্রকাশ করে এবং তৃতীয় বাক্যটি অতীত কাল প্রকাশ করে।
(d) Note the forms of negative sentences:
নেতিবাচক বাক্য রূপগুলি লক্ষ্য করুন:
(i) We will not spend the night in the bhelaghar.
আমরা কুঁড়েঘরে রাত কাটাই না।
(ii) We did not spend the night in the bhelaghar.
আমরা কুঁড়েঘরে রাত কাটাইনি।

We use will not or did not or didn't to express a negative meaning.
আমরা নেতিবাচক অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে will not অথবা did or did not ব্যবহার করি।
Now check your grammar. Rewrite these sentences by changing the underlined verbs to express
