Answer:- There was nearly always a strong wind in these parts. So the villagers kept large stones on roofs to prevent them from being blown off.

Answer:-  Usha’s grandfather said about the cause behind the appearance of the ghosts on Haunted Hill that during a horrible storm one of the houses in the settlement of Britishers was struck by lightning and all the members of the family including two children were killed and they remained as ghosts on the Haunted Hill.

Answer:- Usha compelled to halt her journey back home because night had fallen and cold, stinging pellets of rain  came ddown faster along with a flash of lightning which sharply outliineed the ruins oon the hill. So, she decided  to take shelter in the ruins.

Answer:- I think this was not Usha’s first visit to the ruins because firstly, Usha remembered the part of an old roof that would gave her shelter. Secondly , she knew about the cat  that lived in the ruins.

Answer:- Usha, Binya and Suresh afraid of ghosts because of the story of the ruins told by Usha’s grandfather. So they had fear in mind about ghosts. That’s why Usha mistook Binya and Suresh were ghosts. In fact, there was no ghost. Because of the wind the top of the plum tree moving and they thought it was a waving hand and bid them and the chilling sound of wind was interpreted by them as good bye.
