1. 

(a)    Which kind of garbage is not converted into compost by the redworms?

Ans:-  Red kesu cannot convert waste items such as salt foods, pickles, oil, vinegar, meat and foods made of milk into manure.


(b)    Have you seen any other organism besides redworms, in your pit? If yes, try to find out their          names. Draw pictures of these.

Ans:- Apart from the red earthworms, some other organisms were seen in these pits. They are- guava, kumti, wi, pigeon etc.


2.     Discuss:

(a)   Is garbage disposal the responsibility only of the government?

Ans:- It would not be fair to put the onus of removing the waste only on the government. If the people of the country are not aware of this issue, then the government alone cannot solve this problem. Therefore, the government as well as the people should extend full cooperation to solve this problem.


(b)   Is it possible to reduce the problems relating to disposal of garbage?

Ans:- If the people of the country are fully aware then the waste disposal problems can be reduced. People should be made aware of the various types of smuses that can occur from waste and these will be resolved by the government to build public opinion about various ways to address them. So the only solution to the waste disposal problem is to create awareness among the public.

(a)   What do you do with the left over food at home?

Ans:- We make compost the food items left in the house as leftovers.


(b)   If you and your friends are given the choice of eating in a plastic plate or a banana leaf                    platter at a party, which one would you prefer and why?

Ans:- At the banquet we would like to eat in kalpat. At the end of the meal, if we throw away the banana leaf, it will rot and turn into compost. The plastic plate, on the other hand, does not rot.


4.    

(a)   Collect pieces of different kinds of paper. Find out which of these can be recycled.

Ans:- A variety of pieces of paper were collected - old newspapers, magazines, torn book pages, envelopes, gifted papers, packets of sweets, notebooks etc. 

    Of these papers, except for gifted paper and packets of sweets, all other papers are reusable.


(b)   With the help of a lens look at the pieces of paper you collected for the above question. Do            you see any difference in the material of recycled paper and a new sheet of paper? 

Ans:- We will see a lot of difference when we look at the revamped pieces of paper and new pieces of paper with the help of lenses.

    The revamped piece of paper is very rough and varied in colour. While the new piece of paper is fine and one in colour.


5.    

(a)    Collect different kinds of packaging material. What was the purpose for which each one was          used? Discuss in groups.

(b)    Give an example in which packaging could have been reduced?

Ans:-

(c)    Write a story on how packaging increases the amount of garbage.

Ans:-

6. Do you think it is better to use compost instead of chemical fertilisers? Why?

Ans:- I think it is better to use compost instead of chemical fertilisers. This is because chemical fertilizers are made in combination with different chemical fertilizers. The products produced by this fertilizer sometimes appear to cause side effects in our body. On the other hand, compost is made from nature-varieties. So this fertilizer is good for use.
