                Maul Bhalu 

                मालू भालू

High up in an icy lair

एक बर्फीली मांद में ऊँचे स्थान पर

 Lived a little polar bear

एक छोटा सा ध्रुवीय भालू रहता था

 Snow white, snow bright was her mane,

उसका अयाल बर्फ़ की तरह सफ़ेद, बर्फ़ की तरह चमकीला था,

 Malu Bhalu was her name. 

मालू भालू उसका नाम था.

Very soon our Malu Bhalu

बहुत जल्द हमारा मालू भालू

 Learnt the things her parents knew

वह बातें सीखीं जो उसके माता-पिता जानते थे

 Fish to catch, big and small...

पकड़ने के लिए मछलियाँ, बड़ी और छोटी...

 Malu was a clever girl.

मालू एक चतुर लड़की थी.

 Malu said to her mother one day:

एक दिन मालू ने अपनी माँ से कहा:

 Ma, I’m going far out to play.

माँ, मैं खेलने के लिए बहुत दूर जा रहा हूँ।

 I want to see the things that lie 

मैं उन चीज़ों को देखना चाहता हूँ जो झूठ बोलती हैं

There beyond the big blue sky. 

वहाँ विशाल नीले आकाश से परे.

A little patience, child, said Mum,

थोड़ा धैर्य रखो, बच्चे, माँ ने कहा,

 In the summer when next it comes.

गर्मियों में जब अगली बात आती है.

 Summer?... Patience?... What a test! 

गर्मी?... धैर्य?... क्या परीक्षा है!

Malu simply could not rest. 

मालू को आराम ही नहीं मिल रहा था।

First things first! Malu’s mum

सबसे पहली बात! मालू की माँ

Clasped Malu tight within her arms.

मालू को कस कर अपनी बांहों में भींच लिया.

Then she said — her voice was firm

फिर उसने कहा- उसकी आवाज़ दृढ़ थी

Now my dear you’ll have to swim.

अब मेरे प्रिय तुम्हें तैरना होगा।

But Ma! said Malu, what do I know?

लेकिन माँ! मालू बोला, मुझे क्या पता?

How will I? I’ve never swum before!

मैं कैसे करूंगा? मैं पहले कभी नहीं तैरा!

Don’t worry dear, said Malu’s mother,

चिंता मत करो प्रिय, मालू की माँ ने कहा,

Do as I do, that’s all, she advised her.

जैसा मैं करती हूं वैसा करो, बस इतना ही, उसने उसे सलाह दी।

She had no choice, no other way,

उसके पास कोई विकल्प नहीं था, कोई अन्य रास्ता नहीं था,

Malu had to swim that day.

उस दिन मालू को तैरना था.

Tight she gripped her mother’s hand,

उसने कसकर अपनी माँ का हाथ पकड़ लिया,

Into the water splash! to land.

पानी के छींटों में! लैंडिंग के लिये।

Brave mother’s brave young daughter!

वीर माँ की वीर जवान बेटी!

Doubt and fear she left behind her.

संदेह और भय वह अपने पीछे छोड़ गई।

Malu swam with all her might,

मालू अपनी पूरी ताकत से तैरी,

It didn't matter wrong or right.

इससे कोई फर्क नहीं पड़ता कि गलत है या सही.

But swimming came so naturally,

लेकिन तैरना बहुत स्वाभाविक था,

Her mother knew this and all could see.

यह बात उसकी माँ को पता थी और सब देख सकते थे।

Fearless was Malu, this she knew,

मालू निडर थी, यह वह जानती थी,

Not just brave, but special too.

सिर्फ बहादुर ही नहीं, बल्कि खास भी.

 Read the following passage carefully.

निम्नलिखित गद्यांश को ध्यानपूर्वक पढ़ें।

 One day Meena plucks a mango and brings it home. Her grandmother gives the larger piece to Raju because he is a boy. Meena protests. After all, she brought the mango and she is the elder of the two. She insists she has a greater right over her share. Her father comes to her help and divides the mango equally.

एक दिन मीना एक आम तोड़कर घर ले आती है। उसकी दादी राजू को बड़ा टुकड़ा देती है क्योंकि वह एक लड़का है। मीना ने विरोध किया। आख़िर वह आम ले आई और वह दोनों में बड़ी है। वह इस बात पर जोर देती है कि अपने हिस्से पर उसका अधिक अधिकार है। उसके पिता उसकी मदद के लिए आते हैं और आम को बराबर-बराबर बाँट देते हैं।

3. Malu lived with Malu’s parents in the North Pole. Malu had great fun with seagull Malu’s friends.

 मालू उत्तरी ध्रुव में मालू के माता-पिता के साथ रहता था। मालू ने सीगल मालू के दोस्तों के साथ खूब मस्ती की.

 One day, Malu’s father told Malu that the hunters had come to trap Malu and Malu’s family. Malu knew how to hide very well. Malu shut Malu’s eyes and curled up like a ball of snow. 

एक दिन मालू के पिता ने मालू को बताया कि शिकारी मालू और मालू के परिवार को फंसाने आए हैं। मालू छुपना बहुत अच्छे से जानता था. मालू ने मालू की आँखें बंद कर लीं और बर्फ के गोले की तरह सिमट गई।

 The hunters searched for Malu and Malu's family everywhere but in vain

शिकारियों ने मालू और मालू के परिवार को हर जगह खोजा लेकिन सफलता नहीं मिली । 

We can avoid repeating the names by using certain other words in their place. Study the table below
