iii) Why are Bay Islands not seen in the estuaries of rivers on the west coast of India?

Answer:  The west coast of India is also very steep and steep. In addition, the floodplains of the rivers on the west coast are very small. Because the basins are composed of hard old rocks, there is very little deposit. For these reasons, bay islands are not easily formed and visible in river estuaries.

3. Answer the following questions in about 125 words:

 i) Compare the islands in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

       (b)  These islands are scattered between 8° - 12° north latitude and 71° - 74° east longitude.

    (e) Minicoy is the largest island   in the Arabian Sea  and covers an area of 453 sq. km. m.

        Islands in the Bay of Bengal-

        (a)  There are about 572 islands in the Bay of Bengal.

      (b)  They are located between 6°N and 14°N latitude and 92°E - 94°E longitude.

      (c)  The archipelago of the Bay of Bengal  is divided into two main parts,the Andaman Islands in the north and the Nicobar Islands in the south 

       (d) These two islands are separated by a ten degree system.

        (e) The archipelago is believed to have been formed by the rise of submerged mountains.

ii) What are the most common topographical features of river valleys?

Answer:  The most common topographical features of river valleys are as follows:

        River Valley -  An area formed by the deposition of various wastes and sediments carried  by  the flowing water of a river.

            This formation is commonly found in the southern part of the Bhavar Mountains.
            Tarai- A swampy area located some distance from the main watercourse.

       Balukarodhika- The excavation of the river in the upper reaches results in the accumulation of waste in various parts of the middle and lower reaches. The bodies formed by the accumulation of these wastes are called sediments.

           Bisrpa- In the course of the river, soft rocks cannot be excavated while hard rocks cannot be excavated. In that case, the river moves in a spiral because of various obstacles in its path. This path is called creep.

            Horseshoe-shaped lakes - When the river discharge is high, the river moves in a straight path instead of a crooked path. The course of this missing river is known as the horseshoe lake.

iii) If you go from Bangladesh to the Sundarbans along the Ganges River, write down which topographical features you will see.
