Ans:
1. Define Shock and Explain Its Management
Definition:
Shock is a life-threatening medical condition where the circulatory system fails to supply adequate blood flow to the tissues and organs, leading to oxygen deprivation and organ failure.
Management:
- Ensure airway, breathing, and circulation (ABC).
- Lay the patient flat with legs elevated (Trendelenburg position) to improve blood flow to vital organs.
- Control any bleeding immediately.
- Keep the patient warm to prevent hypothermia.
- Administer oxygen if available.
- Monitor vital signs regularly.
- Seek immediate medical help for advanced treatment such as intravenous fluids, medications, or blood transfusion.
2. Explain the Rule of Nine in Burns
The Rule of Nine is a method used to estimate the total body surface area (TBSA) affected by burns. It divides the body into sections, each approximately 9% (or multiples of 9%) of the total body surface area:
- Head and neck: 9%
- Each arm: 9% (4.5% front, 4.5% back)
- Each leg: 18% (9% front, 9% back)
- Front of the torso: 18%
- Back of the torso: 18%
- Perineum (genital area): 1%
This helps in assessing burn severity and guiding fluid resuscitation.
3. Describe the CPR Procedure
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure to restore breathing and circulation in a person who has suffered cardiac arrest.
Steps:
- Check responsiveness and breathing. If unresponsive and not breathing normally, call for emergency help.
- Place the person on their back on a firm surface.
- Chest compressions:
- Place hands one over the other on the center of the chest.
- Compress the chest at least 5 cm deep at a rate of 100-120 compressions per minute.
- Rescue breaths:
- After 30 compressions, give 2 breaths by tilting the head back, lifting the chin, pinching the nose, and breathing into the mouth.
- Repeat cycles of 30 compressions and 2 breaths until help arrives or the person recovers.
4. Explain First Aid in Fractures
First Aid Steps:
- Immobilize the injured area using splints or padding to prevent movement.
- Avoid moving the person unnecessarily.
- Control bleeding if present by applying pressure around the wound.
- Apply a cold pack to reduce swelling.
- Elevate the injured limb if possible and if it does not cause pain.
- Seek immediate medical attention.
5. Write Management of Drowning
- Remove the person from water safely.
- Check for responsiveness and breathing.
- If not breathing, start CPR immediately.
- Clear the airway of any obstructions.
- Keep the person warm to prevent hypothermia.
- Place the person in the recovery position if breathing but unconscious.
- Seek emergency medical help immediately.
