Let us now learn about some endangered species of animals. Golden langur is found in a small region of Western Assam. Its scientific name is trachypithecus geei. It is also found in the foothills of neighbouring Bhutan. It is one of the most endangered primate species of Assam. It is considered as a sacred animal by many Himalayan people. It generally lives in troops of about eight. But sometimes they live up to fifty with several females.

Another endangered species of Assam is the one horned rhino. They are found in alluvial plain grasslands by the Terai and the Brahamaputra river basin. The rhino's single horn is present in both males and females. The black horn is composed of pure keratin, like human fingernails. The horn reaches about a length of 25 cm to 57 cm. Due to rapid destruction of forest and climatic changes their numbers have gradually reduced every year. The poachers are also posing a great threat to these innocent animals.
