Ans: Grandfather bought Toto from a tonga-driver for five rupees. The tonga-driver kept the monkey tied to a feeding-trough. It looked so out of place there that grandfather decided he would add it to his private zoo.

Ans: Grandfather finds Toto bodily pretty. Toto has bright sparkling eyes. There is mischief beneath his deep-set eyes. He shows his pearly white teeth in a smile. The Anglo- Indian ladies are afraid of his smile. He has quick fingers. His tail serves as a third hand.

Ans: Toto was transferred to a big cage in the servants’ quarters where a number of grandfather’s pets lived together. However, Toto would not allow other animals to sleep at night. Therefore, grandfather, who had to leave for Saharanpur to collect his pension, decided to take it along with him. A big black canvas kit-bag with some straw at the bottom was arranged for Toto to travel in. The canvas was too strong for Toto to bite and he could not get his hands out through the opening in the bag. When Toto poked its head out of the bag at Saharanpur station, the ticket collector was taken aback. He called Toto a dog and asked grandfather to pay for its travel. Even after repeated explanations and convincing by the grandfather, the ticket collector charged him for the monkey by calling it a dog.  There is nothing in the story to tell us why the ticket collector insisted on calling Toto a dog. You could discuss the second part of the question with your teacher..

Ans: Toto takes bath in a bowl of warm water. Be would check the temperature first then puts its legs in the water one by one and applies soap as well. As monkeys are good at aping others, so Toto has learnt to do this while watching the narrator doing same.  Toto is fond of bathing with warm water. So once having tested the warmth of water in the kettle Toto sits in the kettle. Probably he is not intelligent enough to understand the risk boiling water so he pops his head up and down in the kettle.

One day Toto entered the dining room, he picked up the dish and ran out with a plate of Pulao to sit in the branches of the jackfruit tree. He stayed there all afternoon and ate slowly till he finished all the rice. Then, to irritate Grandmother, he threw the dish from the tree thus breaking it into pieces.  āϟোāϟোā§ąে āϤাā§° āĻĻুāώ্āϟāϤা āĻā§°ি āĻĻিāϝ়া āύাāĻ›িāϞ। āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻŦāϏ্āϤুāĻŦোā§° āϟুāĻ•ুā§°া āϟুāĻ•ুā§° āϕ⧰ি āĻĒেāϞাāχāĻ›িāϞ। āϏি āĻ–ুāĻĄ়ীā§° āĻĒোāĻ›াāĻ• āĻŦোā§° āĻ›িāĻ™ি āĻĒেāϞাāχāĻ›িāϞ। āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻĒ্āϞেāϟ āφ⧰ু āĻŦাāϚāύ-āĻŦā§°্āϤāύ āĻাāĻ™িāϞে। āĻāĻĻিāύ āϟোāϟো āĻĄাāχāύিং ā§°ুāĻŽāϤ āĻĒ্ā§°ā§ąেāĻļ āϕ⧰িāϞে, āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻŦ্āϝāĻž্āϜāύāϟো āϤুāϞি āϞāϞে āφ⧰ু āĻ•ঁāĻ াāϞ āĻ—āϛ⧰ āĻĄাāϞāϤ āĻŦāĻšিāĻŦāϞৈ āĻĒুāϞাāϓ⧰ āĻĒ্āϞেāϟ āĻāĻ–āύ āϞৈ āĻĻৌā§°ি āφāĻšিāϞ। āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻ—োāϟেāχ āĻĻুāĻĒā§°ীāϝ়া āϤাāϤ āφāĻ›িāϞ āφ⧰ু āϏāĻ•āϞো āϚাāωāϞ āĻļেāώ āύোāĻšোā§ąাāϞৈāĻ•ে āϞাāĻšে āϞাāĻšে āĻ–াāχāĻ›িāϞ। āϤাā§° āĻĒিāĻ›āϤ, āφāχāϤাāĻ• āĻŦিā§°āĻ•্āϤ āϕ⧰িāĻŦāϞৈ, āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻŦ্āϝāĻž্āϜāύāϟো āĻ—āϛ⧰ āĻĒā§°া āĻĻāϞিāϝ়াāχ āĻĻিāĻ›িāϞ āφ⧰ু āĻāύেāĻĻā§°ে āχāϝ়াāĻ• āϟুāĻ•ুā§°া āϟুāĻ•ুā§° āϕ⧰ি āĻĒেāϞাāχāĻ›িāϞ।  Toto caused much mess to the family.
