1. In what way is Iswaran an asset to Mahendra?

Ans- Iswaran is an asset to Mahendra because he is a dedicated and resourceful cook, caretaker, and storyteller. He takes care of Mahendra’s daily needs, cooks delicious meals, and entertains him with fascinating stories, making Mahendra’s life comfortable and enjoyable.

2. How does Iswaran describe the uprooted tree on the highway?

Ans- Iswaran describes the uprooted tree on the highway dramatically. He compares it to a huge wild elephant that had fallen across the road, blocking the path. His storytelling style makes the scene vivid and exciting, as if it were a thrilling event.

3. How does he narrate the story of the tusker? Does it appear to be plausible?

Ans- Iswaran narrates the story of the rampaging tusker in an exaggerated and dramatic manner. He describes how the elephant destroyed everything in its path until he, a mere student, subdued it using a well-aimed cane blow.

His story seems highly unrealistic and exaggerated, making it more entertaining than plausible. However, Mahendra enjoys his storytelling style despite its unbelievable elements.

4. Why does the author say that Iswaran seemed to more than make up for the absence of a TV in Mahendra's living quarters?

Ans- The author says this because Iswaran’s storytelling was so vivid and engaging that it felt like watching a drama or a movie. His expressive gestures, voice modulations, and suspenseful narration kept Mahendra entertained, making up for the absence of a TV.

5. Mahendra calls ghosts or spirits a figment of the imagination. What happens to him on a full-moon night?

Ans- On a full-moon night, Mahendra wakes up to a low moan near his window. Overcome by fear, he looks outside and sees a shadowy figure. Though he dismisses ghosts as imagination, he feels terrified and uneasy. The next morning, Iswaran confirms the presence of the ghost, further unsettling Mahendra.

6. Can you think of some other ending for the story?

Ans- Instead of leaving Mahendra terrified, the story could have a different ending where he bravely investigates the source of the sound and discovers that it was just a trick played by Iswaran to test his courage. This twist would add humor and reinforce Iswaran’s love for storytelling.
Alternatively, Mahendra could confront his fear, only to realize that the "ghost" was an illusion created by his own mind, teaching him the power of imagination and self-control.
