Panchayat means a body that is responsible for the development of villages, The Panchayat is a very important institution for social change. The constitution of India grants power to the Panchayat to raise taxes, plan development schemes and work for local development.

Panchayat works for the development of village, social change, build and repair rural roads, bridges, houses for poor. ( পঞ্চায়ত কাৰ্যালয়ে গাঁও, সমাজৰ পৰিৱৰ্তন তথা গাঁৱৰ সামাজিক উন্নয়ন তথা বিকাশৰ বাবে কাম কৰাৰ উপৰিও গাঁৱৰ ৰাস্তা ঘাট নিৰ্মাণ আদি কাম কৰে।
Sources of Money ( পইচাৰ উতস)
The Panchayat raises a little money from taxes on vehicles, rivers ghats, bazaars and beels etc. They also get on annual grant from the Panchayat and Rural Development Department of the Government.
