Answer: At first Chubukov suspects that Lomov had come to barrow money because he was in his evening Dress. In his confession that he loved Lomov and considered him as his own son, Chubukov was not sincere at all. It shows in his decision that he made up his mind not to give money to Lomov. Later his attitude has changed while Lomov asked for his daughter’s hand in marriage and he rushed out to call his daughter, Natalya.
