                            Once, the Maharaja of Travancore ordered a grand dinner in his palace. In the afternoon before the dinner, the Maharaja entered the kitchen to survey the dishes that had been prepared for the feast.

एक बार, त्रावणकोर के महाराजाअपने महल में एक भव्य रात्रि भोज का आदेश दिया। मेंदोपहर के भोजन से पहले, महाराजा बर्तनों का निरीक्षण करने के लिए रसोई में प्रवेश कियादावत के लिए तैयार किया गया था.

 “What are you going to do with those vegetable scraps?” he asked the cook, pointing to the basket of scraps near the cook. The cook replied, “They are waste. We will throw them away.”

“आप उनका क्या करने जा रहे हैंसब्जी के टुकड़े?” उसने रसोइये से पूछा,के पास स्क्रैप की टोकरी की ओर इशारा करते हुए पकाना। रसोइये ने उत्तर दिया, “वे बेकार हैं। हम उन्हें फेंक देंगे।”  

 “You cannot waste all these bits and pieces of vegetables. Find a way to use them,” the Maharaja commanded sternly and walked away

“आप इन सभी बिट्स को बर्बाद नहीं कर सकतेसब्जियों के टुकड़े. उनका उपयोग करने का एक तरीका खोजें,''महाराजा ने सख्ती से आदेश दिया औरदूर चला गया

The cook was in a fix and kept staring at the vegetable scraps for some time. Suddenly

 रसोइया अंदर था ठीक करके रखा गया घूर रहा है सब्जी के टुकड़े के लिए कभी कभी। अचानक

                 an idea flashed across his mind.  He took all  The vegetable bits, washed them and cleaned them well.       

                उसके दिमाग में एक विचार कौंध गया। उसने सब्ज़ियों के टुकड़े लिये, उन्हें धोया और अच्छी तरह साफ किया।

Then he cut them into long strips. He put them in a huge pot and placed it on the fire to cook. Next, he

g r o u n d s o m e f r e s h coconut, green  chillies and garlic together. He added this paste and some salt to the cooking vegetables.

फिर उसने उन्हें काट दियालंबी पट्टियाँ. उसने उन्हें अन्दर डाल दियाएक बड़ा बर्तन और उस पर रख दिया

पकाने के लिए आग. अगला, वहजी आर ओ यू एन डी एस ओ एम ई एफ आर ई एस एचनारियल, हरी मिर्च और

लहसुन एक साथ. उसने जोड़ासब्जियों को पकाने के लिए यह पेस्ट और थोड़ा नमक डालें।

 Now he whipped some curd and added it to the curry. He also poured a few spoonful's of coconut oil and decorated the dish with curry leaves.

अब उसने थोड़ा सा दही फेंटकर सब्जी में मिला दिया. उन्होंने कुछ चम्मच नारियल का तेल भी डाला औरथाली को करी पत्तों से सजाएं।

Lo and behold! The new dish was ready. The cook served this new dish to the guests that

evening.

भौचक्का होना! नई डिश तैयार थी.रसोइये ने मेहमानों को यह नई डिश परोसी शाम।

Everyone was eager to know the name of the new dish. The cook thought and thought. Then a name came to his mind. He named it(uh-vi-ul).

हर कोई नाम जानने को उत्सुक थानया व्यंजन. रसोइया ने सोचा औरसोचा। फिर एक नाम आया

उसका मन। उन्होंने इसका नाम रखा(उह-वि-उल)।

Avia became famous all over Kerala and is now one of the dishes in a traditional Kerala feast. And imagine, it all came from a basket of waste! 

अविया पूरे केरल में प्रसिद्ध हो गया और अब यह पारंपरिक केरल दावत के व्यंजनों में से एक है। और कल्पना कीजिए, यह सब कचरे की एक टोकरी से आया है!

   The Maharaja was a wise man and ordered the cook to use the vegetable scraps instead of throwing them away.

            1. One day the mother-in-law of a Santhal bridegroom cooked special dish for him when

                he visited her.

            2. “This curry is delicious. What is it?” The mother-in-law pointed at the bamboo door.

             3. Next morning, just as he was about to leave, he remembered that there was no bamboo in his                 village.

             6. She was shocked. “How can I make curry out of a bamboo door?”

              7. “Come, I'll help you by chopping up the bamboo,” he said.
