 The Ball poem 

1.Why does the poet say, “ I would not intrude on him” ? Why doesn’t he offer him money to buy a another ball ? 

কবিয়ে  কিয়  কৈছিল যে তেখেতে  ল’ৰাটোৰ  মনোজগতত  সোমাব  বিচাৰি  নাছিল ? তেখেতে তাক কিয়  আন  এটা  বল  কিনিবলৈ  পইচা  দিয়া  নাছিল ? 

Ans : The poet says I would not intrude on him because he doesn’t want to interfere in the natural process of learning . He wants the boy to learn the meaning of loss on his own . 

        He doesn’t offer him money to buy a another ball because that would be worthless . He wants the boy to learn the lesson of responsibility.  

কবিয়ে  ল’ৰাটোৰ  মনোজগতত সোমাব বিচৰা নাছিল  কিয়নো  তেখেতে তাৰ  প্ৰাকৃতিকভাৱে  শিক্ষা লাভ কৰা  প্ৰক্ৰিয়াটোত  ব্যাঘাত জন্মাব  বিচৰা নাছিল । তেখেতে  ল'ৰাটোৱে  বস্তুৰ  অস্থায়ীত্বটো  নিজেই  অনুভৱ  কৰাটো  বিছাৰিছিল । 

      তেখেতে  তাক নতুন বল কিনিবলৈ পইচা দিয়া নাছিল কিয়নো ই অৰ্থহীন । ল’ৰাটোৱে নিজৰ দায়িত্ব বুজি পোৱাটো তেখেতে বিচাৰিছিল ।

2. ………” starting down / All his young days into the harbour Where / His ball went ……” Do you think the boy has had the ball for a long time ? Is it link to the memories of days when he played with it ?

……..” চাই আছিল / তাৰ  শৈশৱৰ  দিনবোৰ  জানটোতে  পৰিছিল / তাৰ  বলটোৰ  সৈতে ….” তুমি কি ভাবা   ল’ৰাটোৰ  ওচৰত  বলটো  বহুদিনৰ  পৰাই  আছিল নে ? বলটোৰ সৈতে  ল’ৰাটোৰ  শৈশৱৰ কিবা  স্মৃতি  জড়িত হৈ  আছিল নে ?

Ans :  Yes , the boy has had the ball for a long time . When it bounced into the water , all his memories of the days of childhood flashed in front of him . This lead to a realization that those moments would not come back just like the ball . He can have a new ball and can create new moments but those that are gone would not return.

 

হয় , ল’ৰাটোৰ  ওচৰত বলটো বহুদিনৰ পৰাই আছিল । যেতিয়া  বলটো  পানীত  পৰিছিলগৈ  তাৰ  শৈশৱৰ  চকুৰ সন্মুখত  ভাঁহি  উঠিছিল । সি  অনুভৱ  কৰিছিল  যে  সেই  দিনবোৰ  পুনৰ  ঘুৰি  নাহে  বলটো  গুচি  যোৱাৰ  দৰে । সি  নতুন  বলৰ  সৈতে  নতুন  স্মৃতি  বনাব  পাৰিব  কিন্তু  হেৰাই  যোৱা  পুৰণি  স্মৃতিবোৰ  কেতিয়াও  ঘুৰাই  পাব  নোৱাৰে।

3. What does “in the world of possession” mean ?

“অধিকাৰৰ  পৃথিৱীখন” মানে  কি  বুজাইছে ?

Ans : “In the world of possession”  means that the world is full of materialistic things . The poet suggests that losing the ball , which is very small thing would make the boy understand what it is like to loss something that one possessed. 

অধিকাৰৰ  পৃথিৱী  অৰ্থাৎ  পৃথিৱীখন  ভৌতিক  বস্তুৰে  ভৰপূৰ , কবিয়ে কৈছে যে  বল  হেৰুৱাৰ  দৰে  এটা  সৰু  ঘটনাই  ল’ৰাটোক  বুজাই  তুলিব  যে  নিজৰ  বস্তু  হেৰুৱাৰ  অনুভৱ  কেনেকুৱা  হব  পাৰে। 

4. Do you think the boy has lost anything earlier ? Pick out the words that suggest the answer.

তুমি  কি ভাবা  ল’ৰাটোৰ  পূৰ্বতে  কিবা  হেৰুৱাইছিল  নেকি? উত্তৰটোৰ  বাবে  শব্দবোৰ  বাছি  উলিওৱা।

Ans : No it seems that the boy had not lost anything earlier . The words that suggest so are “He senses first responsibility in a world of possession”.

মোৰ  মতে  ল’ৰাজনে  পূৰ্বতে  একো  হেৰুওৱা  নাছিল। এনেদৰে  ভবাৰ  কাৰণ  হ’ল  “ তেওঁ  এই  অধিকাৰৰ পৃথিৱীখনত  প্ৰথমবাৰৰ বাবে  দায়িত্ববোধ অনুভৱ কৰিছিল।

   

5. What does the poet say the boy is learning from the loss of the ball ? Try to explain this in your own way ?

ল’ৰাটোৱে  বলটো  হেৰুৱাই  কি বুজি  উঠিছে বুলি কবিয়ে কব  বিচাৰিছে?

Ans : The poet says with the loss of the ball the boy is learning to face the feeling of loss . He is experiencing the grief and learning to grow up in this world of possession . He learns that so many things in life that are lost, cannot be brought back. He realized  the duty of responsibility for the first time . The boy will learn how to stand up and leave the losses behind as he would have understood the true meaning and nature of loss.

 

কবিয়ে  কৈছে যে  বলটো হেৰুৱাই  হেৰুওৱাৰ  বেদনা  সহ্য  কৰিবলৈ  শিকিব , সি  ভয়  খাইছিল আৰু  ভৌতিক  পৃথিৱীখনত  জীয়াই  থাকিবলৈ  শিকিছিল। সি  বুজি  উঠিছিল  যে  পৃথিৱীত  হেৰুৱাব  লগীয়া  বস্তু  অসংখ্য  আছে  যিবোৰক  কেতিয়াও  ঘুৰাই পাব নোৱাৰি। প্ৰথমবাৰৰ  সি  নিজৰ  দায়িত্ব  বুজি  উঠিছিল। এতিয়া সি শিকি উঠিছিল যে বস্তু এটা হেৰুওৱাৰ পিছত ঘূৰাই পাব নোৱাৰি, ই চিৰন্তন নীতি।

 

6. Have you ever lost something that you loved very much ? Write a paragraph how you felt and saying weather and how you got over your loss ? 

তুমি কেতিয়াবা নিজৰ প্ৰিয় বস্তু হেৰুৱাই পাইছা নেকি? এইক্ষেত্ৰত নিজৰ অনুভৱৰ বিষয়ে এটা আভাস দিয়া ?

Ans: We all have something goods in our life which are very dearest to us . Like all other around . I had my one dearest pen , which is very close to my heart . That pen was given to me as the first ink pen when I was in lower school . Being a child at that time I adore that pen a lot . I always carried it with me . One day in school I lost my favourite pen and that made me crying . I came back to home with a heavy heart . The picture of the pen came into my mind frequently . Then my parents asked me the cause of my sadness . After I told them about the lost of my special ink pen ,  They told this in the world of possession nothing is permanent  , loss is a part of life . So to get over the sense of loss we need to realise our responsibility of taking care of things . Through the loss of that I leaned a lesson of responsibility. 

আমাৰ  সকলোৰে  জীৱনত  প্ৰিয়  কিছুমান  বস্তু  থাকে। আন  সকলো মানুহৰ  দৰে , মোৰো  এটা  মৰমৰ  কলম  আছিল। সেইটো আছিল মোৰ  দেউতাই  দিয়া প্ৰথম কলম যেতিয়া মই প্ৰাথমিক বিদ্যালয়ত পঢ়ি আছিলো। মই কলমটো যথেষ্ট মৰমেৰে মোৰ লগত প্ৰতিটো সময়তে কঢ়িয়াই লৈ ফুৰিছিলো। এদিন বিদ্যালয়ত মোৰ কলমটো হেৰাইছিল আৰু মই কান্দিছিলো। সেইদিনা মই দুখ মনেৰে ঘৰলৈ উভতি আহিছিলো। কলমটোৰ কথা মনত কৰি মোৰ প্ৰায়েই চকুপানী ওলাইছিল। তেনেতে মাঁ হতে মোক দুখ কৰি থকা কি কাৰণত মন মাৰি থকা বুলি সুধিলে আৰু মই কলমটো হেৰুওৱাৰ কথা ক’লো । তেতিয়া তেওঁলোকে মোক বুজালে যে এই ভৌতিক পৃথিৱীখনত কোনো বস্তুৱে চিৰস্থায়ী নহয়। আমি সকলোৱে জীৱনৰ প্ৰত্যেকটো বস্তু এদিন নহয় এদিন হেৰুৱাবই লাগিব , ই প্ৰকৃতিৰ নিয়ম। গতিকে আমি জীৱনত আগুৱাই যাবলৈ নিজৰ দায়িত্ব পালন কৰিব লাগিব।
