 The Beggar

1. Has Lushkoff become a beggar by circumstance or by choice?

    (āϞুāϚāĻ•āĻĢ āĻĒā§°িāϏ্āĻĨিāϤিāϤ āĻŦা āĻĒāĻ›āύ্āĻĻā§° āĻĻ্āĻŦাā§°া āĻিāĻ•্āώাā§°ী āĻšৈ āĻĒā§°িāĻ›ে āύেāĻ•ি?)

Answer:- Lushkoff has become a beggar by choice. Previously, he sang in a Russian choir and was sent away for drinking. Instead of finding another job, Lushkoff decided to become a beggar.

2. What reasons does he give to Sergei for his telling lies?

    (āĻŽিāĻ›া āĻ•āĻĨা āĻ•োā§ąাā§° āĻŦাāĻŦে āϤেāĻ“ঁ āϏেā§°্āĻ—েāχāĻ• āĻ•ি āĻ•াā§°āĻŖ āĻĻিāϝ়ে?)

Answer:- Lushkoff maintains that he was turned away from Russian singers because he was an alcoholic. He lies because if he tells this truth, no one will ever help him or give him money.

3. Is Lushkoff a willing worker? Why, then, does he agree to chop wood for Sergei?

    (āϞুāϚāĻ•āĻĢ āĻāϜāύ āχāϚ্āĻ›ুāĻ• āϕ⧰্āĻŽী āύেāĻ•ি? āϤেāύেāĻš'āϞে āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻ•িāϝ় āϏেā§°্āĻ—েāχ⧰ āĻŦাāĻŦে āĻ•াāĻ  āĻ•াāϟিāĻŦāϞৈ         āϏāύ্āĻŽāϤ āĻšāϝ়?)

Answer:- No, he is not a willing activist. Alcohol has reduced his strength, and he has no inclination to do anything. He agrees to chop wood for Sergei because he is hungry or wants to work but he is shamed and trapped by his words.

4. Sergei says, "I am happy that my words have taken effect." Why does he say so? Is he         right in saying this?

    (āĻ›েā§°্āĻ—েāχ āĻ•āϝ়, "āĻŽোā§° āĻ•āĻĨাāĻŦোā§° āĻ•াā§°্āϝāϕ⧰ী āĻšোā§ąাāϤ āĻŽāχ āϏুāĻ–ী।" āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻ•িāϝ় āĻāύেāĻ•āϝ়? āϤেāĻ“ঁ             āĻāχāϟো āĻ•োā§ąাāϟো āϏāĻ িāĻ• āύেāĻ•ি?)

Answer:"I am happy that my words have been implemented," says Sergei. He said that because he thinks Lushkoff is the reason he went from being a beggar to a notary. This is partly true, but Sergei is not the only one who made Lushkoff what he is now.

Lushkoff says that although he is obliged to Sergey for guiding him in the right direction and for allowing him to work as a lumberjack at his house, his transformation is the result of Sergei’s cook, Olga. She was the one who cut the wood and not Lushkoff.

5. Lushkoff is earning thirty five roubles a month. How is he obliged to Sergei for this?

   (āϞুāϚāĻ•āĻĢে āĻŽাāĻšে āĻĒঁāϝ়āϤ্ā§°িāĻļ ā§°ুāĻŦāϞ āωāĻĒাā§°্āϜāύ āϕ⧰ি āφāĻ›ে। āχāϝ়াā§° āĻŦাāĻŦে āϤেāĻ“ঁ āĻ•েāύেāĻ•ৈ āϏেā§°্āĻ—েāχāĻ• āĻŦাāϧ্āϝ?)

Answer:Lushkoff is earning thirty-five rubles a month. he is obligated to Sergei as if he had not come to Sergei, he could still be a beggar who told the same old lie of being a teacher or a student. But Sergey helped him out of the hole by giving him work.

6. During their conversation Lushkoff reveals that Sergei's cook, Olga, is responsible for the     positive change in him. How has Olga saved Lushkoff?

   (āϤেāĻ“ঁāϞোāϕ⧰ āĻ•āĻĨোāĻĒāĻ•āĻĨāύ⧰ āϏāĻŽāϝ়āϤ āϞুāϚāĻ•āĻĢে āĻĒ্ā§°āĻ•াāĻļ āϕ⧰ে āϝে āϏেā§°্āĻ—েāχ⧰ ā§°াāύ্āϧāύী āĻ“āϞāĻ—া            āϤেāĻ“ঁā§° āχāϤিāĻŦাāϚāĻ• āĻĒā§°িā§ąā§°্āϤāύ⧰ āĻŦাāĻŦে āĻĻাāϝ়āĻŦāĻĻ্āϧ। āĻ“āϞāĻ—াāχ āϞুāϚāĻ•āĻĢāĻ• āĻ•েāύেāĻ•ৈ ā§°āĻ•্āώা āϕ⧰িāĻ›ে?)

Answer:- Sergei took Lushkoff to his house and gave him work cutting wood. He asked his cook, Olga, to take Lushkoff to the lumber shed and let him chop wood.

When Lushkoff becomes a notary and meets Sergei by accident, he tells him that all that time, Olga was chopping wood. She felt sorry for Lushkoff and cut herself instead of letting Lushkoff do this.

Lushkoff said her kindness changed him to be a better person and to earn a living.
