1. (i) Find, in the first stanza, three things that cannot happen in a treeless forest.

১) (i) গছবিহীন অৰণ্যত হ’ব নোৱাৰা তিনিটা কথা প্ৰথম স্তৱকত বিচাৰক।

  (ii)  What picture do these words create in your mind: "... sun bury its feet in shadow..."? What could the poet mean by the sun's 'feet'?

4. Now that you have read the poem in detail, we can begin to ask what the poem might mean. here are two suggestions. Can you think of others?

৪/ এতিয়া যেতিয়া আপুনি কবিতাটো বিতংভাৱে পঢ়িছে, তেতিয়া আমি কবিতাটোৰ অৰ্থ কি হ’ব পাৰে বুলি সুধিবলৈ আৰম্ভ কৰিব পাৰো। ইয়াত দুটা পৰামৰ্শ দিয়া হৈছে। আপুনি আনৰ কথা ভাবিব পাৰেনে?

Ans. 

(i) Does the poem present a conflict between man and nature? Compare it used for 'interior decoration' in cities while forests are cut down, are 'imprisoned', and need to 'break out'?

(ঝ) কবিতাটোত মানুহ আৰু প্ৰকৃতিৰ মাজত সংঘাত উপস্থাপন কৰা হৈছেনে? চহৰবোৰত ‘অভ্যন্তৰীণ সজ্জা’ৰ বাবে ব্যৱহাৰ কৰা তুলনা কৰক, আনহাতে বনাঞ্চলবোৰ কাটি পেলোৱা হৈছে, ‘বন্দী’ কৰা হৈছে, আৰু ‘ব্ৰেক আউট’ কৰাৰ প্ৰয়োজন আছে?

(ii) On the other hand , Adrienne Rich has been know to use trees as a metaphor of human beings; this is a recurrent image in her poetry. What new meanings emerge from the poem if you take its trees to be symbolic of this particular meaning?

5. You may read the poem 'Oh killing a Tree' by Given Patel (Beehive- Textbook in English for class ix, NCERT). Compare and contrast it  with the poem you have just read.
