Ans- Algu says to his Jumman when Algu got a Panch from Jumman's aunt and he said this because he want to be unbiased.

Ans- Sahu said so to Algu because the bullock that Algu had given to Sahu had died in a month and Sahu had not pay for this.


5. “Victory to the panchayat. This is justice.”

Ans- Algu shout to the people around him when Jumman gave a fair judgment.
 

C. Answer the following questions.

1. “Then the situation changed.” What is being referred to? (2)

Ans- The situation of the Jumman's aunt change first she was treated well after that she was ill-treated.


2. When Jumman’s aunt realised that she was not welcome in his house, what arrangement did she suggest? (3)

Ans- She decided that she got a monthly income from Jumman because she cannot handle the insult anymore and she want to cook separately.
 

3. What was the villagers’ reaction when the aunt explained her case to them? (4)

Ans- The villagers gave a mixed reaction some laughed at her, some were with her and some people said that she should make up with Jumman and his wife.


4. Why was Jumman happy over Algu’s nomination as head Panch? (6)

Ans- Jumman was happy by Algu's nomination as head Panch because Algu was his friend and he will not give a judgment against him.


5. “God lives in the heart of the Panch.” the aunt said. What did she mean? (6)

Ans- She meant to remained Algu that Panch hold a place of god so he should not lie and he should be just and fair.


6. What was Algu’s verdict as head Panch? How did Jumman take it? (7, 8)

Ans- Algu gave a verdict that shocked Jumman because Algu said Jumman to pay a monthly income to his aunt. Jumman was very upset by his decision and from that day he began Algu to be his enemy.


7. Algu found himself in a tight spot. What was his problem? (9)

Ans- Algu had sold a bullock to Sahu and Sahu promise that he will pay the money within a month but the bullock died within the month.

                 Algu was in a tight spot because Sahu was refused to pay the money as the bullock died.


8. Why was Algu upset over Jumman’s nomination as head Panch? (12, 13)

Ans- Algu was upset with the nomination of Jumman as the head Panch because he was certain that he would take revenge of the judgment that Algu has given earlier.
 

9. What was Jumman’s verdict as head Panch? How did Algu take it? (14, 15)

Ans- When Jumman was made the head Panch then he thought if he should take the revenge. Then he realized that he was in a position of Panch he should not lie. So he said Sahu to pay the price of the bullock.

                 Algu was very happy at the verdict. He began to shout it was the victory of the Panchayat.
 

10. Which of the following sums up the story best?

(i) “I also know that you will not kill your conscience for the sake of friendship.”

(ii) “Let no one deviate from the path of justice and truth for friendship or enmity.”

Give a reason for your choice.

Ans- ii) ''Let no one deviate from the path of justice and truth for friendship or enmity.'' sums up the story the best as it clearly show whey Jumman and Algu were not able to give wrong verdicts by being in position Panch.
