The Lake Isle Of Innisfree

Thinking about the Poem  

I. l . What kind of place ls Innisfree ? Think about: 

(ইনিসফ্রি কোন ধরণের জায়গা?)

 (i) the three things the poet wants to do when he goes back there (stanza I)

(ফিরে আসার পর কবি যে তিনটি কাজ করতে চান তার নাম বলো।) 

Answer: The  three things the poet wants to do when he goes back there are to build a small cabin of clay and wattles, have nine rows of bean and make a hive for honeybee.

(কবি যে তিনটি কাজ করতে চান তা হল একটি ছোট মাটির কুঁড়েঘর তৈরি করা, নয়টি সবজির সারি লাগানো এবং একটি মৌচাক তৈরি করা।)

(ii) what he hears and sees there and its effect on him (stanza II).

(সে সেখানে কী শোনে এবং দেখে এবং তা তাকে কীভাবে প্রভাবিত করে?)

Answer: He hears crickets singing in the morning and sees midnight gloms , noon with a purple glow and evenings full of linnet wings. These things give him peace. (সে সকালে পঙ্গপালের শব্দ শুনতে পায় এবং মধ্যরাতের তারা, গোলাপী সন্ধ্যা এবং সন্ধ্যায় লিনেটের ঝাঁক দেখতে পায়। এই জিনিসগুলি তাকে শান্তি দেয়।)

(iii) what he hears in his "heart's core" even when he is far away from Innisfree (stanza III)

(যদিও সে ইনিসফ্রি থেকে অনেক দূরে ছিল, তবুও সে তার হৃদয়ের গভীর থেকে কী শুনেছিল??

Answer: He hears the lake water lapping with low sound  in his "heart's core" even when he is far away from Innisfree.

(যদিও সে ইনিসফ্রি থেকে অনেক দূরে ছিল, তবুও সে তার হৃদয়ের ভিতর থেকে হ্রদের জলের শান্ত কণ্ঠস্বর শুনতে পেল।)

2. By now you may have concluded that Innisfree is a simple, natural place, full of beauty and peace. How dগes the poet contrast it with where he now stands? (Read stanza III.)

(এখন পর্যন্ত এটা বোঝা গেছে যে ইনিসফ্রি প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যের একটি সরল, শান্ত স্থান। কবি তার বর্তমান অবস্থানের সাথে কীভাবে তুলনা করেন?)

Answer: The poet stands on a roadway or on a pavement. Though he is standing there, he can still imagine the low sound of lake water because of his deep intimacy with the place Innisfree.

(কবি ছিলেন মাঝখানে অথবা রাস্তার কাছে। যদিও তিনি ইনিসফ্রি থেকে অনেক দূরে ছিলেন, তবুও তিনি হ্রদের জলের শান্ত স্বর শুনতে পেতেন কারণ এই জায়গাটির সাথে তার ঘনিষ্ঠতা ছিল।)

3. Do you think Innisfree is only a place, or a state of mind? Does the poet actually miss the place of his boyhood days?

(তুমি কি মনে করো ইনিসফ্রি একটা জায়গা নাকি শুধুই একটা মনের অবস্থা? কবি কি সত্যিই তার শৈশবের জায়গাটি মনে রেখেছেন?)

Answer:  According to me Innisfree is both a place and a state of mind. The poet actually does miss the place of his boyhood days a lot  and that feeling transformed the place to  a state of mind for him.

(আমার মনে হয় ইনিসফ্রি একটি জায়গা এবং একই সাথে মনের অবস্থা। কবি তার শৈশবের জায়গাটি মনে রাখেন এবং এই অনুভূতি জায়গার স্মৃতিগুলিকে মনের অবস্থায় রূপান্তরিত করেছে।)

II. 1. Look at the words the poet uses to describe what he sees and hears at Innisfree 

(ইনিসফ্রিতে কবি যা দেখেন এবং শোনেন তার সাথে নিম্নলিখিত শব্দগুলিকে কীভাবে বর্ণনা করেন?)

 (i) bee-loud glade (মৌমাছির ঝাঁক)

 (ii)evenings full of the linnet's wings

 (পরের সন্ধ্যায় লিনেট পাখির ঝাঁক)

 (iii) lake water lapping with low sounds 

(হ্রদের জলের শান্ত স্বর)

What pictures do these words create in your mind?

(এগুলো তোমার মনে কী ধরণের ছবি এঁকে?)

Answer: These words creates a beautiful scenario in our mind. The place is full of natural things like humming bees. In the evening there are a flock of Linnet birds. There is also the low sounds of lake water. Everything described above makes the place peaceful and tranquil altogether.

(এই কথাগুলো মনের মধ্যে একটা সুন্দর ছবি এঁকে দেয়। জায়গাটা মৌমাছি ইত্যাদি প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্যে পরিপূর্ণ। হ্রদের জলের শান্ত শব্দও আছে। সেখানে বর্ণিত প্রতিটি শব্দ জায়গাটিকে একটি প্রশান্ত ও শান্ত পরিবেশ দান করে)

2. Look at these words: (নিচের শব্দগুলো দেখুন।)

Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings 

What do these words mean to you?. What do you think "comes dropping slow … from the veils of the morning" mean? What does "to where the cricket sings" mean?

(কথাগুলো থেকে তুমি কী বুঝতে পারছো?? "comes dropping slow ... from the veils of the morning" মানে কি?"to where the cricket sings A মানে কি?)

Answer: By "comes dropping" it means peace. "To where the cricket sings" means the place Innisfree.

("comes dropping" এর অর্থ শান্তি।৷ "to where the cricket sings" বাম হাতের রেখাটি ইনিসফ্রি নামক একটি স্থানকে নির্দেশ করে)
