1. Why was the ‘holy man’ who gave Santosh’s mother his blessing surprised?

Answer: In the society of Santosh’s family, people never ask for girl child. While her grandmother seeks blessing for girl which surprised the holy man.

সন্তোষের সমাজে মানুষ কখনোই কন্যা সন্তান চায় না, কিন্তু তার দিদিমা কন্যা সন্তানের জন্য আশীর্বাদ চেয়েছিলেন।

2) Give an example to show that even as a young girl Santosh was not ready to accept anything unreasonable. (2)

Answer: She left home for Delhi to get proper education for herself. She was sixteen-year-old at that time.

(সে সঠিক শিক্ষা লাভের জন্য বাড়ি ছেড়ে দিল্লিতে চলে আসে। তখন তার বয়স ছিল ১৬ বছর।)

5) Why did Santosh’s parents agree to pay for her schooling in Delhi? What mental qualities of Santosh are bought into light by this incident?

(কেন সন্তোষের বাবা-মা তাকে দিল্লির স্কুলে যাওয়ার জন্য টাকা দিতে রাজি হয়েছিলেন? এই ঘটনা সন্তোষের মানসিক অবস্থা সম্পর্কে কী দেখিয়েছে?)

Answer:- Santosh’s parents agreed to pay for schooling because she rewelded her plan to earn money by courage & herself by doing part time job to pay fees. It shows Santosh’s desire to achieve education.

(সন্তোষের বাবা-মা তার পড়াশোনার খরচ বহন করতে রাজি হয়েছিলেন কারণ তিনি বলেছিলেন যে তিনি নিজেই এটি উপার্জন করবেন। এটি সন্তোষের সাহস এবং ইচ্ছাশক্তির পরিচয় দেয়।)

II. Answer each of these questions in a start paragraph (about 30 Words)

1) How did Santosh begin to climb mountain?

(সন্তোষ কীভাবে আরোহণ শুরু করেছিলেন?)

Answer:- In Jaipur Santosh’s hostel room faced the Aravalli Hills from where she used to watch the villagers climbing up and suddenly vanishing after a while. She decided to check it by herself but found nobody except a few mountaineers who allowed her to climb with them. This was how Santosh began to climb mountain.

(জয়পুরে সন্তোষের হোস্টেল রুম থেকে আরাভালি পাহাড় দেখা যেত। বাড়ি থেকে সে সবসময় গ্রামবাসীদের পাহাড়ে উঠতে দেখত। একদিন সে নিজেই জায়গাটা দেখতে গিয়ে আরোহণকারী দলের সাথে দেখা করে, যারা তাকে তার সাথে পাহাড়ে উঠতে দেয় এবং এভাবেই সে পাহাড়ে উঠতে শুরু করে।)

2) What incidents during the Everest expedition show Santosh’s concern for team mates?

Answer:- Santosh provided special care to a climber who lay dying at the South pole in 1992 Everest Mission. She saved Mohan Singh, who would have lost his life had she not shared her oxygen with him.

(১৯৯২ সালের এভারেস্ট অভিযানে, সন্তোষ দক্ষিণ মেরুতে মারা যাওয়া একজন পর্বতারোহীর বিশেষ যত্ন নিয়েছিলেন। তিনি অক্সিজেন সিলিন্ডার ভাগ করে মোহন সিং নামে একজনের জীবনও বাঁচিয়েছিলেন।)

3) What shows her concern for the environment?

Answer:- Santosh is really an environmentalist who is concern for the nature, during her maintaining period, she collected and brought down 500 kilograms of garbage from the Himalayas.

(সন্তোষ ছিলেন একজন স্বাভাবিকভাবেই সচেতন মেয়ে যিনি পর্বতারোহণ থেকে ফিরে আসার সময় ৫০০ কেজি আবর্জনা সাথে করে নিয়ে এসেছিলেন।)


4) How does she describe her feeling at the summit of the Everest?

Answer:- She say’s that it takes time for the enormity of the moment to sink in. She was delighted at this moment and proudly unfurled the Indian Tricolor.

(সে বললো যে সেই সময়টা বুঝতে তার সময় লেগেছে। সেখানে তার পতাকা উড়িয়ে সে খুশি হয়েছিল।)

5) Santosh Yadav got into the record books both times she scaled Mt. Everest. What were the reasons for this?

Answer:- She is the youngest women who scaled the Everest. She is the only women who climbed the Everest twice.

(তিনি ছিলেন এভারেস্ট জয়কারী সর্বকনিষ্ঠ মেয়ে। তিনি ছিলেন প্রথম মহিলা যিনি দুবার এভারেস্ট আরোহণ করেছিলেন।)
