i. How did the proud person help the poet when the poet was unhappy?

Answer:- When the poet was unhappy, the proud person helped him with money.

ii) What did the poor man do when he found the poet lying in pain and sadness? 

কবিক দু:খ আৰু বেদনাত নিষণ্ণত হৈ থকা দেখি দৰিদ্র মানুহজনে কি কৰিছিলে?

Answer:-  When the poor man found the poet lying in pain and sadness, the poor man didn’t leave his side. He bounded his head and gave him food to eat. The poor man took care of him day and night.

 দৰিদ্র লোকজনে যেতিয়া কবিক বেদনা আৰু দুঃখেত নিষণ্ণ হৈ থকা দেখিছিল, তেতিয়া দৰিদ্র লোকজনে কবিৰ পাশ এৰা নাছিল। তেওঁৰ মথা বান্ধী থৈছিল আৰু খাদ্য খাব দিছিল। দৰিদ্র লোকজনে কবিৰ দিনে ৰাতি যত্ন কৰিছিলে।

iii). Why does the poet think that he cannot help the man back in the same way? 

কবিয়ে কিয় ভাবিছিল যে মানুহজনক তেওঁ একেভাবে সহায় কৰিব নোৱাৰিব?

Answer:- The poor man had no money to help the poet, but he had a soulful mind to help him. The poor man devoted his sympathy with the poet and took  care of him all day and night to relieve him. The sympathy is heavenly that cannot be paid back.

 দৰিদ্র লোকজনৰ ওচৰত কবিক সহায় কৰিব কাৰণে কোনো অর্থ নাছিল, কিন্তু তেওঁক সহায় কৰাৰ বাবে তেওঁৰ ওচৰত উচ্চ ভাবপূৰ্ণ মনটো আছিল। দৰিদ্র লোকজনে কবিৰ প্রতি তেওঁৰ সহানুভূতি নিবেদিত কৰিছিল আৰু তাক মুক্তি দিয়াৰ বাবে গোটেই দিন ৰাতি তাৰ যত্ন কৰিছিলে। সহানুভূতি স্বর্গীয় যে ঘূৰাই দিব নোৱাৰি ।

iv)  Why is the poor man’s help greater than gold? 

দৰিদ্র মানুহজনৰ সহায় সোণতকৈয়ো বিশিষ্ট আছিল কিয়?

Answer:- The poor man’s way of help is full of heavenly  sympathy, while the rich man’s help was just  an expression to show the power of his wealth. His help had no sympathy. So, the poor man’s help is greater than gold. 

দৰিদ্র মানুহৰ সহায়ৰ উপায় স্বর্গীয় সহানুভূতিতে পূর্ণ, ইফালে ধনী ব্যক্তিৰ সহায় তাৰ ধনৰ শক্তি দেখুৱাৰ এক অভিব্যক্তি মাত্র। তাৰ সহায়ৰ কোনো সহানুভূতি নাছিল। সেইকাৰণে,দৰিদ্র মানুহজনৰ সহায় সোণতকৈয়ো বিশিষ্ট।

v) “Oh, gold is great but greater far is heavenly sympathy.” Why does the poet think so?

 “ওহ, সোণ মহান কিন্তু স্বর্গীয় সহানুভূতি  বহু বেছি বিশিষ্ট বুলি কবিয়ে কিয় ভাবিছিলে?

Answer:-  Gold or money is exchangeable and can be measured. Whereas the sympathy that  a man show with  another is priceless. Sympathy complements  humanity. That is why sympathy is godly goodness and therefore the poet also thinks so. 

স্বর্ণ বা অর্থ হৈছে বিনিময়যোগ্য আৰু  তাক পৰিমাপ কৰিব পৰা যায়। আনহাতে এজন মানুহে যি সহানুভূতি দেখায় সেয়া অমূল্য। সহানুভূতি হৈছে মানৱতাৰ পৰিপূৰক। সেইকাৰণে সহানুভূতি হ'ল ধাৰ্মিক ধাৰ্মিকতা আৰু সেই কাৰণে কবিও তেনেদৰে ভাবিছিল। 

b) Find in the poem lines that match the meaning of the following sentences.

i) I was sad and unhappy- I lay in sorrow, deeply distressed.

c) Make sentences with the following phrases:

i) Look was cold: The rich man helped him with money, but his looks were cold.

ii) night and day: The poor man worked hard night and day.

iii) pay him back: After his recovery, the man was able to pay  the rich man back.

6. Summary of the poem Sympathy by Charles Mackay

চার্লস ম্যাকেয়েৰ সহানুভূতি কবিতাটোৰ সংক্ষিপ্তসাৰ -

Answer:- Once the poet was full of grief and very depressed. A rich and proud man heard about the poet’s problems and came to help him. The proud man offered him money but did not offer him any words of sympathy. 

এবাৰ কবিয়ে শোকপূর্ণ আৰু খুব হতাশ হৈ পৰিছিল। এজন ধনী আৰু গর্বিত ব্যক্তি কবিৰ সমস্যা শুনি তেওঁক সহায় কৰিব আহিছিলে। গর্বিত লোকজনে কবিক অর্থিক সহায়ৰ বাবে অৰ্পিত  কৰিছিল কিন্তু তেওঁক  সহানুভূতি দিবৰ বাবে কোনো শব্দ কোৱা নাছিলে।

                  When the poet recovered, he went back to the man and repaid all the gold. He also stood straight, offered the man thanks, and blessed him for this help. 

যেতিয়া কবি সুস্থ হৈ উঠিলে তেওঁ মানুহজনৰ ওচৰত গোটেই সমস্ত সোণৰ শোধ ঘূৰাই দিছিলে। তেওঁ ষ্পষ্টবাক্যৰে , মানুহজনক ধন্যবাদ জনায়, আৰু এই সহায়ৰ বাবে তেওঁক আশীর্বাদ কৰিছিলে। কবিয়ে দুঃখ-বেদনাত নিষণ্ণ হৈ পৰিছিল। এজন দৰিদ্র লোকে কবিক দেখিছিলে আৰু তেওঁৰ যত্ন কৰিছিল।

                    The poet was lying in sorrow and in pain. A poor man saw him and took care of him. He also offered him food to restore the poet’s health. He took great care of the poet until the poet regained his health. 

কবিৰ স্বাস্থ্য পুনৰুদ্ধাৰ কৰাৰ বাবে  তেওঁক খোৱা লোৱাত সৰবৰাহ কৰিছিলে। কবিৰ স্বাস্থ্য ভাল নোহোৱা  পর্যন্তলৈকে তেওঁ  কবিৰ খুব যত্ন কৰিছিলে। 

    The poet wonders how to repay an act of selfless kindness. He realizes that having money to repay a debt is a great thing, but kindness is a heavenly act that cannot be easily repaid. 

    কবিয়ে আচৰিত হয় কেনেকৈ নিস্বাৰ্থ দয়াৰ কাম এটা পৰিশোধ কৰিব লাগে। তেওঁ উপলব্ধি কৰে যে ঋণ পৰিশোধ কৰিবলৈ ধন থকাটো এক ডাঙৰ বিষয়, কিন্তু দয়া হৈছে এক স্বৰ্গীয় কাৰ্য্য যাক সহজে পৰিশোধ কৰিব নোৱাৰি।
